Seville’s Olympic stadium went from 52,000 to 70,000 seats in 2025; the major works are scheduled for 2028, and public transport access remains the weak point.

La Cartuja (70,000 seats), 2 h 40 min from Madrid by AVE. Extreme heat in June and July and a poorly served stadium: plan ahead.
Seville hosts the World Cup at the La Cartuja stadium, on the island of the same name, 4 km from the centre. The city has the highest average hotel prices in Spain (€204.60 in April 2026 according to the INE) and temperatures that regularly top 40°C in summer.
Getting there
AVE from Madrid in about 2 h 40 min (from €7 observed for advance bookings on Trainline, 30 August 2026), 24 trains a day. The line reopened on 17 February 2026 after the Adamuz accident of 18 January 2026.
San Pablo airport is 10 km away, with the EA bus to the centre.
Getting around
Metro (€1.35 to €1.80 depending on the number of zones crossed), TUSSAM buses and trams at €1.40, tourist travel card €5 (one day) or €10 (three days).
La Cartuja is served by neither the metro nor the train: city buses, special services on match days, or a 45-minute walk from the centre. The Junta has asked for the Cercanías line to be extended to the stadium, but it is neither funded nor approved.
