Vigo

Awaiting FIFA validation

Put forward alongside Valencia in March 2026, Vigo has to take Balaídos above 42,000 seats — without the funding in place.

The largest city in Galicia, Vigo was put to FIFA on 26 March 2026 to replace A Coruña. The Balaídos expansion project (a retractable roof, a second tier) still has to be funded.

Getting there

Train from Madrid: about 4 hours on the Alvia via Ourense (check times on renfe.com). Porto is 150 km away: regional Celta train (about 2 h 20 min, to be checked) and buses. Peinador airport is 9 km away.

Getting around

Vitrasa city buses. Balaídos is south-west of the centre. Fares and routes to be confirmed on vitrasa.es.

Don’t miss

  • Cíes Islands — A national park reached by boat (with a visitor quota), and some of the finest beaches in Europe.
  • Casco Vello — The old quarter and the oysters of Rúa Pescadería.
  • Monte do Castro — A fortress and a panoramic view over the ría.
