At Benslimane, some forty kilometres from Casablanca, Morocco is building what is billed as the future largest football stadium in the world: 115,000 seats under a giant “tent”. A declared candidate for the final.

The Grand Stade Hassan II is rising at Benslimane, some forty kilometres from Casablanca, on a 100-hectare complex served by 64 km of new roads. Designed by the architect Tarik Oualalou (Oualalou + Choi) with Populous, it takes the form of a huge fabric tent covering the 115,000 seats spread across three tiers (22,600, 30,600 and 62,000 according to the press visit of May 2026), with the pitch left open to the sky.

In June 2026, the site had 10,000 workers on three shifts, 24 cranes and four concrete batching plants.

2030

Progress was announced at 40% in May 2026. The handover date varies by source: December 2027 (Médias24, May 2026) or the end of 2028 (Al Jazeera, StadiumDB, Infobae). So does the cost: MAD 5 billion quoted at the outset, MAD 9.7 billion of contracts awarded according to Médias24.

The stadium is Morocco’s candidate for the final on 21 July 2030, up against the Bernabéu and the Camp Nou; it is also tipped for the opening match of the main tournament. FIFA has awarded nothing. In early August 2026, The Times reported that Gianni Infantino had allegedly offered the final to Morocco in exchange for support for his re-election; the next day, Spanish public radio described the opposite scenario. There has been no official confirmation.

Getting there

For now, road access only (some forty kilometres from Casablanca). For the World Cup, a station is planned at Benslimane on the Kénitra–Marrakech high-speed line, whose opening is targeted for November 2029, along with a service from the future underground station at Mohammed V airport.
